BYD's personalized sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao has begun pre-sales of its first model, after the brand was officially launched earlier this month.
Fang Cheng Bao announced at the Chengdu auto show and it has begun accepting pre-orders for its first model, the Bao 5, with a price range of RMB 300,000 - RMB 400,000. The price range is significantly lower than the RMB400,000 to RMB600,000 range that many had previously expected.
This year's Chengdu auto show is being held at the Western China International Expo City and will run until September 3, with August 25 as the media day. This is Fang Cheng Bao's first time at the show, and its booth is located at H308 in Hall 3.
The Bao 5 is a hybrid hardcore crossover SUV, and customers can pay RMB 1,000 as a deposit, which will be credited with RMB 3,000 when they pay the purchase price, and receive a RMB 8,000 discount on options.
BYD officially introduced the Fang Cheng Bao brand on August 16, unveiling a technology platform called DMO to make the Bao 5 official.
BYD's hybrid technology platform previously included the DM-i and DM-p, with the former focusing on fuel economy and the latter more on performance. The company's pure electric vehicle platform is called e-Platform 3.0.
DMO is Fang Cheng Bao's proprietary platform, where O stands for off-road and DM stands for dual mode.
DMO is an epoch-making platform for hybrid technology, and is the final general attack that BYD's NEVs are launching against traditional fuel vehicles, Wang said at the time.
In addition to the Bao 5, BYD also debuted the Super 8, a concept of the Bao 8, and another model, the Bao 3, at the August 16 launch.
