Overseas Automakers Shine at CIIE with New Energy Models in the Spotlight

On November 5, the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened in Shanghai, showcasing top international brands in the automotive sector, including Volkswagen, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Honda, Nissan, and Volvo. Unlike previous years, which focused on supercars and luxury vehicles, this year’s expo has put a spotlight on new energy vehicles, marking a shift in industry trends.

Volkswagen Group: Accelerating Electrification

Volkswagen brought seven models from its brands—Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche—with six being all-electric, underscoring its commitment to electrification. Volkswagen displayed popular models like the ID. YUZON, ID.3, and ID.7 VIZZION. Audi showcased the new Q6L e-tron and e-tron GT, with the Q6L e-tron planned for production at the Audi FAW plant in Changchun, featuring smart configurations tailored for the Chinese market. Porsche introduced the all-electric Macan Turbo, demonstrating a focus on both range and performance.

Toyota: Advancing New Energy and Intelligent Driving

Toyota unveiled the soon-to-be-released bZ3C and Alphard 3X, both all-electric models equipped with laser radar and intelligent driving capabilities. The showcase also included the bZ4X Robotaxi concept car, featuring the autonomous driving system developed with Pony.ai, signaling Toyota’s rapid progress in smart, eco-friendly driving.
BMW: Diverse Power Options on Display

BMW featured six models from its M series, including the new BMW M5, the brand’s first high-performance hybrid, combining a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine with a high-performance electric motor. The all-electric BMW i5 M60, with its dual-motor system generating 442kW of power and accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, highlights BMW’s expertise in electric performance.

Mercedes-Benz: Unveiling the Maybach EQS Electric SUV

Mercedes presented a record number of models at CIIE, with the all-electric Maybach EQS SUV attracting significant attention. As Maybach’s first fully electric production model, it boasts 470kW of power and a range of 611 km, exemplifying the brand’s technological leadership in luxury electric vehicles.

Ford: Showcasing American Style

Ford brought rugged models like the F-150 Raptor, Bronco, and Mustang Convertible, reflecting its strength in SUVs, pickups, and performance cars. Lincoln, Ford’s luxury brand, showcased the Navigator Earl Edition, embodying classic American luxury.

General Motors: Spotlight on the Electric Hummer

The General Motors booth featured the full-size TAHOE SUV, Corvette sports car, and all-electric HUMMER, a classic that has evolved from a fuel-guzzling powerhouse to a pioneering electric off-road vehicle.

Hyundai: Highlighting the Nexo Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle

Hyundai displayed its high-performance fuel model ELANTRA N and electric IONIQ 5 N, but the star of the booth was the Nexo, a hydrogen-powered vehicle slated for release next year. With only water as a by-product, Nexo exemplifies Hyundai’s commitment to sustainable transportation.

Jaguar Land Rover: Debuting the I-TYPE 6 Race Car

Land Rover brought models like the new Range Rover, while Jaguar’s highlight was the I-TYPE 6, a Formula E champion race car, showcasing Jaguar’s competitive edge in electric racing technology.

Honda: Introducing the New ‘YE’ Electric Brand

Honda debuted three models from its new electric brand, “YE,” featuring the S7, P7, and GTCONCEPT, as part of its focus on electric transformation. Honda also displayed plug-in hybrid technology and the eGX universal engine, emphasizing its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Volvo: Unveiling the Flagship EX90 Electric SUV

Volvo showcased the all-new EX90, a flagship electric SUV equipped with laser radar and built on the latest platform, promising advanced safety and intelligent driving features.

This year’s CIIE demonstrates the overseas automakers’ rapid push toward electrification and intelligent driving, with a range of innovative new energy models that reflect a shared commitment to greener, future-focused mobility.
